Snowshoeing Gear List

To start having a blast snowshoeing, you need these things:

1. Snowshoes
obviously, you need snowshoes to go snowshoeing. They are very simple and easy to use; if you can walk, you can snowshoe.

2. Tennis Shoes with Waterproof Shoe Covers/Hiking Boots
Snowshoes work in conjunction with most kinds of shoes. Because of this, you need to decide how you will be snowshoeing. If you are going to be running in your snowshoes, you need to where your favorite tennis shoes and buy some waterproof snow covers so your feet stay dry. If your are going to be simply walking or trekking through the woods, it would be better to wear some hiking boots.

3. Gaiters
Walking anywhere when you are wet is not fun, especially if it is cold outside. To make your snowshoeing experience more enjoyable, make sure you purchase some gaiters. Gaiters are basically waterproof coverings that wrap around your legs and the tops of your shoes/boots.

4. Trekking Poles
Trekking poles are not necessary for snowshoeing unless you feel like you would need them to keep your balance. Trekking poles are simply walking sticks made out of quality material, usually metal, that help you keep your balance and provide rest to lean on if you are tired.

Optional Accessories:
1. Flotation Tails
Flotation tails are accessories for snowshoes that help you stay on top of the snow when it is very deep. The tails attach to the rear section of the snowshoes and add extra “flotation” and stability.

2. Snowshoe Gear Bag
A gear bag is a great idea because it will keep all of your snowshoeing gear together and manageable. There are many options to choose from, but they all perform the same task.
