Here’s everything you need to go trail running:
1. Trail Running Shoes
Trail running shoes differ from regular running shoes because they usually have thicker (not necessarily heavier) soles that allow for longer life of the shoe and also better grip when running on wet surfaces.
2. Performance Running Socks
Having the right kind of sock is one of the most important things to think about when preparing to trail run because having the right sock is the difference between having healthy feet and having blisters. You need to wear a performance sock because they wick moisture away faster and better than anything else, leaving healthy, dry, and blister-free feet.
3. Performance Wear Layer
When dressing for trail running, your first layer should be made of performance wear. Clothing made out of performance wear will wick moisture away from your body, leaving you dry and warm or cool, depending on the weather.
4. Outer Layer (usually on legs only)
The next step in dressing for trail running is to put on an outer layer. This is not necessary, but most people do because performance wear is very revealing. An outer layer may consist of your favorite t-shirt, cut-off, or tank top with your favorite running/athletic shorts.
Optional Accessories:
1. Heart Rate Monitor
A heart rate monitor is an awesome accessory because you can accurately tell how hard your heart is working. If you are a hardcore runner and do not have one of these, you should look into it.
2. Altimeter Watch
Having an altimeter watch is like having your own personal weatherman on your wrist. Using a built-in barometer, this watch alerts you when a storm is approaching, and most of them have a built-in compass too!
3. Hydration System
Everyone knows that humans need water. And if you are reading this, I assume that you are a human, and need water. Having a hydration system on your back while running is a great idea because it allows you to drink while running, hands free, and they usually have extra pockets so you can store your rain gear or whatever else you want to carry.
